The goal of this seminar is to provide education on current research on adoption and diverse family types. Students are required to participate in class discussions in which they will discuss issues and subjects relevant to the adoption literature. There is a required practicum component to this seminar in which students will serve as mentors to adopted children in the Adoption Mentoring Partnership.

Psychosocial dynamics of adolescents and young adults. Topics include physical and maturational development, theories of adolescence, family and peer group influences, sexuality, cognitive and vocational development, schooling and youth culture. Focus on basic principles and issues. Prerequisite: introductory psychology.
This weekly seminar will be focused on increasing students' knowledge base about current psychological topics related to diversity in research and applied settings and fostering students' professional development (e.g., providing education about different career paths and graduate school) to prepare students for future careers in psychology with a strong foundation in diversity-related topics.
What accounts for the human capacity to perceive and reason about the world? This course will explore the origins and development of human knowledge in the individual child, in relation to two larger time scales: biological evolution and historical/cultural change. The course centers on six case studies of knowledge development.
This course offers an introduction to the field of child and adolescent psychopathology. We will review contemporary approaches to understanding the clinical features, diagnosis, causes, developmental course, and prevention of major psychological disorders in childhood and adolescence. Core emphases include: l) Conceptual understanding. This fascinating field has been densely researched and the pace of knowledge growth is very rapid.
