American Sign Language II

This course continues introduction to American Sign Language (ASL) for non-signers. Students will learn to appreciate and respect ASL as a living, unique, and wholly naturally occurring language, and recognize Deaf people as a community with their own set of cultural traditions and values. After taking the course, students will be able to learn and use American Sign Language for daily conversational needs. The class taught primarily in ASL.

S- Psychology of Competition

What psychologically distinguishes rivalry from competition? Social psychology and other social sciences have a long-standing tradition of investigating competition and conflict, but the concerted study of rivalry has only been underway for about a decade. The goal of this course is to develop a recognition and understanding of competition, conflict, and rivalry from psychological (e.g. social, peace) and other social science perspectives (e.g. political science, business, sport management).

ST-ExtremeMaterials/LifeProtec

Various protective materials including body armor, helmets, and specialized suits are essential to saving lives and minimizing body injuries under extreme dynamic conditions. To advance the protective materials, fundamental understanding of material deformation behavior at very high rates is crucial. This course will provide basic understanding of materials science and high-strain-rate mechanics relevant to such extreme conditions.

LGBTQ Health

This course is about the unique health needs and health disparities within the LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer) communities, and among the individuals who make up each of these communities. We will learn about gender identity and sexual orientation development in kids and young adults, sexual health, global perspectives, strategies for improving the healthcare experience of LGBT people (e.g., patient-centered and compassionate care), barriers to accessing health care, and many other relevant topics.
