STEM-Ambassadors Program- Spr

This is a continuation of the Fall course. Students work in small groups with a research faculty advisor and graduate student mentor. They engage in a variety of activities related to STEM research, education and outreach. Students experience the STEM research culture at the university, engage in group and independent research projects, engage in mentoring middles school students, and interact with a diversity of STEM professionals.

OASIS for Transfers

The OASIS Seminar for Transfers is designed for incoming transfers, to help them make a smooth transition, identify programs of interest, and be successful at UMass. Students will learn how to: navigate UMass requirements, opportunities, resources and procedures; clarify their choice of major; ensure timely progress toward graduation; and position themselves for careers and other post-graduate options.

Demystifying Library Research

A practical approach to developing information literacy for college-level research and lifelong learning. Efficient and effective methods for managing "information overload" and for finding, using, evaluating, organizing, and presenting information. For first or second year students and transfer students who may benefit. No prerequisites.

Technical Direction

This class will offer students the opportunities to learn how scenery, props, and other technical elements are created for theater and other entertainment venues. Students will gain practical experience working with various materials and techniques while fabricating elements for the theater department's main-stage productions. Instructions will include lectures and hands-on demonstrations on topics such as project management, wood and metal joinery, material choices, and the making of non-toxic goo. Students will work in pairs and in teams within a safe and creative environment.

S-Black Theater Workshop

Black Theater Workshop is a focused exploration of the work of a selected Black Theater Artist through research and performance of their work and related material. Participants will gain an understanding of the meaning of "Black Theater" and acquire practical approaches to analyzing and performing this particular kind of work.

ST-Special Topics/Dramaturgy

This graduate seminar in dramaturgy each semester goes in depth into a special topic. Topics to include: Multicultural Theater Practice, Performance Theory, Avant-Garde Theater, Production Dramaturgy, Translation, Adaptation, and Dramaturgical Writing. Please check at enrollment time to see what Special Topic is being offered for the coming semester.

Actor/Director Collaborations

This course provides the most intensive collaborative opportunity for actors and directors to work together in our department. Directors and actors have an equal voice in the collaborative process, with the goals of: Understanding and experiencing one another's roles; Being able to communicate personal perspectives in a group; and Respecting and integrating the perspectives of collaborators.

Costume Design Studio

Continuation of THEATER 362. Costume design theory, conceptualization, and solution of related problems. Design projects, concept papers, journal, sketch book, and appropriate design work for department productions. Prerequisites: 300-level theater courses or equivalent, consent of instructor. May be repeated for credit. Satisfies the Integrative Experience requirement for BA-Theatr majors.
