ST- Intelligent Manufacturing

Innovation in materials, IT, manufacturing and intelligent techniques is propelling the revolution of manufacturing industry. The integration of the innovative materials and artificial intelligent (AI) and sensing techniques in manufacturing processes, called Industry 4.0, is bringing lower cost and higher quality products to our life and changing our life.

Independent Study

For second year students. Does not satisfy the B.S. independent research project requirement. Experimental or theoretical study that may involve lab or library work or a combination. Work supervised by faculty sponsor who determines direction of project, nature of reports required, and grade and credit awarded. 3-4 hrs lab work per week per 1 unit is expected. This course cannot substitute for CHEM 388 or CHEM 499Y/T.

Reasoning Under Uncertainty

Development of mathematical reasoning skills for problems that involve uncertainty. Counting and probability -- basic counting problems, probability definitions, mean, variance, binomial distribution, discrete random variables, continuous random variables, Markov and Chebyshev bounds, Laws of large number, and central limit theorem. Probabilistic reasoning -- conditional probability and odds, Bayes' Law, Markov Chains, Bayesian Network, Markov Decision Processes.

ST- Sidewalks and Screens

Starting from debates over digital media and publicity/public participation in the city, this class examines the ways media technologies shape, and are shaped by, the built environment. Drawing on historical and ethnographic case studies, it will focus on the city as media, symbols as well as embodiments of particular ideas and values, and the impact that media technologies have had on how people experience urban life.

Modern Arabic Literature

This course draws from the most celebrated works of Arabic literature spanning from the nineteenth century literary "Renaissance" (or "Nahda") to the revolutionary uprising of the "Arab Spring." Focusing on poetry and prose, students will survey the works of major literary pioneers after the mid-nineteenth century, to explore the nuances and controversies involved with asserting the advent of "modern" literary forms within the history of Arabic literature. Internet Marketing

As recent advances in technology have affected nearly every facet of marketing, digitization has revolutionized marketing strategy. Big data, social media networks and new monitoring tools to measure customer journeys are revolutionizing the way consumers and brands engage in online conversations. This course is designed to introduce new theoretical frameworks emerging from digital marketing, covering in detail topics such as search marketing, customer experience analytics, social media marketing, and recommendation systems.
