Quantitative Biology/Cell Hons
First semester of a full year course for students in the BioTAP program. The lecture component of the course is a case-study-based learning environment, designed to acquaint the student with the fundamental principles and processes of biological systems. Subjects include the basics of chemistry pertinent to biology, biochemistry and cell biology, genetics and molecular biology. The lab component of the course is a rigorous introduction to molecular biology techniques, as well as developing lab notebook writing skills and scientific reporting skills.

Neurobiology
Biology of nerve cells and cellular interactions in nervous systems. Lectures integrate structural, functional, molecular, and developmental approaches. Topics include neuronal anatomy and physiology, neural induction and pattern formation, development of neuronal connections, membrane potentials and neuronal signals, synapses, sensory systems, control of movement, systems neuroscience and neural plasticity. With Biology 494LI, this course satisfies the Integrative Experience requirement for BS-Biol majors.
Writing In Biology
Satisfies Junior Year Writing requirement for Biology majors. Students write and revise short papers on subjects likely to be encountered by biologists. Class discussion of papers. Prerequisites: 3 biological science courses, for declared Biology majors only.
General Genetics Lab
Various classical and molecular genetic techniques using various prokaryotic and eukaryotic systems such as bacteria, yeast, plants, and humans. The lab exercises will be largely inquiry based with a focus on experimental design. Laboratory projects include genetic crosses, analysis of the genotype/phenotype relationship, complementation, linkage mapping, and detection of DNA polymorphisms. Also, bioinformatics tools will be used to perform SNP analysis and analyze sequence similarity.
P-STEM Ambassadors Senior Prog
STEM Ambassador seniors will work as a team to ensure that all are on track for graduation and making solid progress toward their next career challenge, be it graduate or medical school, entering the STEM workforce, or something completely unexpected. Seniors will also be asked to give back to the program by mentoring underclassmen or hosting workshops or social activities.
Introductory Biology I
First semester of a full year course for majors in the life sciences. Introduction to the biochemical basis of living systems, cell biology, mitosis and meiosis, principles of genetics, developmental biology. Includes lecture and discussion sections. Required for biology majors. (Gen.Ed. BS)
