How can we educate society about the natural world, contribute to important scientific studies, and help conserve threatened species? Citizen science! We will work together to collect real, useable ecological data from the field and join an international community of citizen scientists. You will take part in different citizen science ecology projects happening around the world, such as iNaturalist, eBird, and Notes from Nature.

Beginning in Biblical times and ending with the modern Jewish deli, this course explores the role of food and drink in a global Jewish context and within the framework of trade, consumption, cultural formation and identity, social stratification and inequality, food access, deprivation, and exploitation.

Studio. Study of formal and informal painting procedures. Focus on development of form as content. Information provided regarding painting processes and associated materials. Includes related theoretical contemporary and historical issues. Varying materials and techniques. Prerequisite: ART 220 and 221, or consent of instructor.

Second half of a full year course in Quantum Field Theory. The focus will be on symmetries in quantum field theory, with a particular emphasis on the Poincare group and its representations. Quantization of spin-1/2 fields will be subsequently covered, followed by an in-depth treatment of Quantum Electrodynamics and its renormalization. An introduction to path integral quantization and non-Abelian gauge theories will also be included.

In this seminar, we look at some African American texts with an eye to their visions of a future. Futurist aesthetics in writings from the African diaspora fall under the umbrella term of Afrofuturism. The term refers to an aesthetics in which people of the African diaspora imagine a seemingly impossible future under the conditions of racial oppression and discrimination. We will begin with a brief introduction to the concept of Afrofuturism: what motivates and inspires the futurist aesthetics of African diasporic writers.
