This 1-credit class will help anyone who is thinking about going to grad school in Sociology, as well as anyone doing-- or thinking of doing-- a research project of their own before graduation. Required for honors seniors.

Combinatorics

Cross-listed with CompSci 575. A basic introduction to combinatorics and graph theory for advanced students in computer science, mathematics, and related fields. Topics include elements of graph theory, Euler and Hamiltonian circuits, graph coloring, matching, basic counting methods, generating functions, recurrences, inclusion-exclusion, Polya's theory of counting. Prerequisites: mathematical maturity, calculus, linear algebra, discrete mathematics course such as CompSci 250 or Math 455. Math 411 recommended but not required.

Adolescent Psych

Psychosocial dynamics of adolescents and young adults. Topics include physical and maturational development, theories of adolescence, family and peer group influences, sexuality, cognitive and vocational development, schooling and youth culture. Focus on basic principles and issues. Prerequisite: introductory psychology.

Agricultural Systems Thinking

Systems thinking is a way of understanding complex real-world situations such as those often encountered in sustainable food and farming careers. Systems tools are needed to complement more traditional discipline-focused scientific approaches when a problem under study: 1) is complex; 2) involves multiple relationships; and/or 3) involves human decision-making. This course will introduce students to systems tools for unraveling complexity and integrating their learning from previous courses and experience.
