Independent Study

Independent student research in neuroscience and behavior. The work is supervised by a faculty sponsor who determines direction of the project, reports required, grade and credit awarded. The project may consist of laboratory research, library research, or some combination of the two. Credit is variable (1-6 credits) and independent study may be repeated each semester. May be taken for a letter grade or graded Satisfactory (SAT). A SAT is similar to the undergraduate Pass (P) and is defined as passing for graduate credit.

FYS- Science of Sleep

Why do we sleep? We spend 1/3 of our lives sleeping, yet we still don't fully know the answer to this question. This course will cover topics including the functions of sleep, sleep stages and dreaming, consequences of sleep loss, how sleep changes across the lifespan, and more! Students will learn how sleep is studied scientifically and how healthy sleep habits can benefit them throughout college.

Glob Challngs,Scientfc Solutns

This 4-credit course brings together topics from Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Natural Systems, and Social Systems in the context of real world scientific issues. Students will be expected to grapple with the scientific underpinnings of complex problems, including issues surrounding Clean Water, Climate Change, Energy Demands, and Disease and Biomedicine. Case studies will serve as the format/foundation in which students will learn and use fundamental scientific principles to investigate these challenges and quantify the scientific contributions to solutions.

Integrative Sci Sr Expo Sem

NatSci 490 SH enhances the thesis research experience for students in the iCons program through peer support teams and advanced scientific communication as students prepare to present their research findings at the Statewide Undergraduate Conference and at the iCons Senior Exposition. This course satisfies Integrative Experience criterion #1 by providing a structured context for students to reflect on and to integrate their previous learning as they prepare to present their senior research findings in these two public forums.
