We live in an age of ongoing global protest, growing authoritarianism, and permanent conflict and crisis in both advanced liberal democracies in the West and fragile states in the global South. This class reflects on the normative ideals that media institutions, producers and users should uphold to foster ethical relationships of responsibility and hospitality toward marginalized communities.

Intro to Hearing Science

ST-Brg As&Asn Am Gen

Talks by local and visiting faculty, as well as film screenings and performances, designed to introduce students to the multi-layered connections between Asia and Asian America. Areas that will be considered include: popular culture, youth subcultures, labor, issues of gender and sexuality, and migration and immigrant communities. Discussions emphasize how issues play out at local, national and transnational levels.

Our Food's Food

Students will engage in meaningful literature research and dialogue about whether organic standards are meeting the needs of both environmental and community sustainability. We will also consider the benefits of sustainable agriculture, both in the sense of conservation of land and soil as limiting natural resources, as well as the sense of community with the farm and food production as the center of family and local community life.
