INTRO/PROBABILITY/STATISTICS

Same as SDS 220. An application-oriented introduction to modern statistical inference: study design, descriptive statistics; random variables; probability and sampling distributions; point and interval estimates; hypothesis tests, resampling procedures and multiple regression. A wide variety of applications from the natural and social sciences are used. Classes meet for lecture/discussion and for a required laboratory that emphasizes analysis of real data. MTH 220 satisfies the basis requirement for biological science, engineering, environmental science, neuroscience and psychology.

Introduction to Game Design

This course provides an introduction to the history of games, terminology and principles of game design and game mechanics. We will also explore the development of analog games and game systems from inception through play-testing and prototyping. Students will learn to analyze, design, prototype and document different non-digital games using professional work flows for game development of non-digital and digital games.

War Stories

An inquiry into the rules governing the representation of war in the late-19th, 20th, and 21st century, this course will focus on a variety of international conflicts, with particular attention to the wide variety of ways in which the experience of war is communicated to non-combatants: film, journalism, memoir, narrative, photography, poetry, etc. The history of U.S. involvement in these recent wars, as well as those which are on-going, will be a central focus of our course.
