ST-Carcinogenesis

Changes in the prevalence of cancer and contemporary diagnostics and treatments. While these have dramatically decreased mortality, cancer continues to claim more than 585,000 lives annually. The focus will be on the mechanisms that are corrupted in cancer cells and the differences in vulnerability among tissues, the technologies used to define pathways and lessons learned and strategies being used to exploit the vulnerabilities of tumors for personalized and targeted therapeutics.

Cancer Biology

We will cover changes in the prevalence of cancer and contemporary diagnostics and treatments. While these have dramatically decreased mortality, cancer continues to claim more than 585,000 lives annually. Therefore, the focus will be on the mechanisms that are corrupted in cancer cells and the differences in vulnerability among tissues, the technologies used to define pathways and lessons learned. Equally important are the strategies being used to exploit the vulnerabilities of tumors for personalized and targeted therapeutics.

Problem-BasedLrng/AdvAnimlHlth

Real-world cases involving management and veterinary medicine for large animals, companion animals, and wildlife will be presented. With instructor guidance, students will work to identify and solve problems posed by each case, while expanding their knowledge and developing skills in critical thinking, self-directed learning, problem solving, written and oral presentation, and teamwork. Satisfies the Integrative Experience requirement for BS-AnSci and BS-PreVet majors.
