This course explores the art of contemporary theater and the power of live performance through a series of shows the students attend in person, along with theater projects they create in a group. Through engagement with both longstanding and new ways of making theater, students will gain exposure to how live theater is being made in the world today -- an exciting moment of new frontiers and forms. This course covers social aspects of the agri-food systems as well as the political economy of food, agriculture and sustainability. Students are also encouraged to examine the cultural, ecological and economic implications of the ways food is perceived, produced and consumed. From rural development to the controversy of GMOs, from land conservation to the politics of globalization, from local food systems to global food justice, students use interdisciplinary perspectives to comprehend, analyze and visualize improved global and local food systems.

The goal of the course is to aid students in being familiar and comfortable with the language, culture, and topics used in Japanese business. The course covers a wide range of topics including technology, science, economy, bioethics, and multinational companies as related to Japanese industry. Class activities include listening to talks, group discussion, debate, and presentations to improve language skills. The class is conducted entirely in Japanese.

Asian Homosexualities in Film and Literature is a cross-cultural, transhistorical course that explores conceptions and representations of homosexuality in literature and film throughout Asia. The majority of readings and films will be about male same-sex representations, but the availability of literary works and films about the female same-sex experience is growing and the instructor is dedicated to providing as many as can he to the students. All the readings are in English.

The design and analysis of efficient algorithms for important computational problems. Emphasis on the relationships between algorithms and data structures and on measures of algorithmic efficiency. Sorting (heapsort, mergesort, quicksort), searching, graph algorithms. Experimental analysis of algorithms also emphasized. Use of computer required. Prerequisite: CMPSCI 250.
