Intermediate French

A comprehensive grammar review aimed at developing language skills in context and providing a foundation for continued study of writing, speaking, reading, and listening in French. Using 'French In Action' and various methods and multimedia tools, all sections will concentrate on: study of grammatical structures as means of communication; frequent compositions to develop effective writing strategies; reading short literary and non-literary texts; and, guided oral expression through structured discussions and exercises.

Design I

Studio. Development of a conceptual basis for design and planning. Basic spatial concepts, design skill development and communications skills applied to presentation of design solutions. Model-making, 2-D presentations of abstract and simple spaces.

Prerequisites: Art Foundations course work, or consent of instructor.

ST-Yoruba IV

Yoruba IV is the fourth part of a four-part elementary course sequence in Yoruba. Yoruba is one of the primary languages of Nigeria and also spoken in diaspora communities in Brazil and the Caribbean. The course is offered through the Five College Mentored Language Program. The course format includes small group conversation sessions and individual tutorials. Students studying Yoruba develop speaking, listening, reading, writing, and cultural etiquette skills needed for study abroad in West Africa and to support course work in African and African-Caribbean studies.

ST-Beginning Korean I

This is an introductory Korean course, which is designed to help students acquire fundamental skills to read, write, listen and speak in elementary level Korean. Students will learn Korean writing system, Hangul, simple sentence patterns, and basic everyday conversations. By the end of the class, students will be able to carry a short conversation about people's backgrounds, likes and dislikes, attributes, as well as location, numbers and counters. Students will also be able to talk about present, past and future events in straightforward social situations.
