Public Health Communications

The public health community - individuals and organizations - have an important role to play in shaping how populations receive and gain access to accurate health information. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention defines health communication as "the and use of communication strategies to inform and influence individual and community decisions that enhance health." This class will provide an introduction to the issues and methods associated with effective communication of health related information.

ST-Intro Seismology

Advanced undergraduate and graduate course presents a basic study in seismology and the utilization of seismic waves for the study of Earth's interior. It introduces techniques necessary for understanding of elastic wave propagation in layered media. Students are expected to have taken Intro Geoscience classes and have good background in basic physics and mathematics.

Paleoclimatology

Methods used in reconstructing climate before the period of instrumental records and their application in understanding late Quaternary climatic fluctuations. Topics include dating methods, ice core studies, palynology, ocean core studies, terrestrial geological and biological studies, dendroclimatology, and historical climatology. Prerequisites: Geo-Sci 354, 458.

S-Sport and New Media

This course will revolve around how various sport properties are leveraging new media and new technologies, specifically, the Internet and mobile technology. Modules to be discussed include ecommerce, sponsorship, social networking and online communities, streaming video, user-enhanced content, and user-generated content.

Sport Law

A presentation of the basic legal system, its terminology, and principles as applied to professional and amateur sports. Emphasis on identifying and analyzing legal issues, the ramifications of those issues, and the means of limiting the liability of sport organizations.
