ST-Italy and The Mediterranean

This course will approach the rich Mediterranean tapestry by focusing on connections among the various cultures of the Mediterranean basin. Emphases on art/architecture, literature, environmental practices, commerce, and food, from a historical perspective. Examples will be taken chiefly from Sicily and Southern Italy, North Africa, Venice, Turkey (Constantinople) and the Middle East, Spain, and France; from the medieval period to more recent colonial occupations and contemporary migrations. Course taught in English.

This course fulfills the IE requirement for Italian majors.

ST- EnglGrammar/studentsItalFr

This course will teach the basics of English grammar to students of foreign languages. It seeks to provide native English speakers with a foundation in their own language, which will aid in the acquisition and understanding of French and Italian grammatical structures. This course is intended especially for students beginning their foreign language study, but is offered as a review for any student who would like to improve their knowledge of basic English grammar.

ST-Late Medieval/Renn Storytel

The purpose of this seminar is to acquaint the participants with some works of late-mediaval and Renaissance storytellers (French "conteurs"). We will read a variety of texts in the storytelling tradition, from Les Cent Nouvelles Nouvelles to Beroalde de Verville's Le Moyen de parvenir. We will place emphasis on genre definition, narratology, aesthetics and cultural history.

ST- Albanian II

Albanian II is the second part of a four-part elementary course sequence in Albanian. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions and an evaluation by an outside evaluator. Students studying Albanian develop speaking and listening skills needed for study abroad in the Albania and to support course work in Eastern European Studies.

ST- Finnish II

Finnish II is the second part of a four-part elementary course sequence in Finnish. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions and an evaluation by an outside evaluator. Students studying Finnish develop speaking and listening skills needed for study abroad in Finland and to support course work in European Studies and Scandinavian Studies.

Community Nutrition

Skills and techniques needed to effectively carry out community nutrition programs and nutrition education, including knowledge of agencies and programs, community assessment, legislation, nutrition education, and working with people.
