History/Sexuality&Race/US

This course is an introduction to the interdisciplinary feminist study of sexuality. Its primary goal is to provide a forum for students to consider the history of sexuality and race in the U.S. both in terms of theoretical frameworks within women?s and gender studies, and in terms of a range of sites where those theoretical approaches become material, are negotiated, or are shifted. The course is a fully interdisciplinary innovation.

The course is a fully interdisciplinary innovation.

ST-Time Series

This course aims to introduce basic concepts and modeling techniques for time series data. It emphasizes implementation of the modeling techniques and their practical application in analyzing actuarial and financial data. The open source program R will be used. Chapter 7, 8 and 9 of "Regression Modeling with Actuarial and Financial Applications", by E.W. Frees, Cambridge University Press, 2010 will be covered, if time allows.

Honors Seminar 2: Topics

This seminar is a required course for Commonwealth Honors College students where students participate in a topical seminar-style course designed by its instructor. While the subject matter of each section is different, advanced knowledge of the topic is not required. While the subject matter of each section is different, the requirements for each section are the same.

SEM IN NEUROSCIENCE

Topics course. This seminar approaches studying the nervous system by examining the mechanisms that have evolved to solve problems encountered by animals in their natural environment. Topics covered include behaviors related to orientation and migration, social communication, feeding and reproduction. Prerequisites: NSC/PSY 100 and one of NSC 230, BIO 200, BIO 300 or permission of the instructor. BIO 362 is recommended but not required. Enrollment limited to 12.

ST- Albanian I

Albanian I is the first part of a four-part elementary course sequence in Albanian. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions and an evaluation by an outside evaluator. Students studying Albanian develop speaking and listening skills needed for study abroad in the Albania and to support course work in Eastern European Studies.

There is more than one way to find success in college and the path to getting there is different for every student. This class will help incoming students define their individual goals and connect them to the resources needed to achieve these goals. Through activities and exercises students will discover the many academic and co-curricular activities available at UMass and begin creating their own roadmap to graduation.
