Linear Algebra

The study of vector spaces over the real and complex numbers, introducing the concepts of subspace, linear independence, basis, and dimension; systems of linear equations and their solution by Gaussian elimination; matrix operations; linear transformations and their representations by matrices; eigenvalues and eigenvectors; and inner product spaces. Special attention will be paid to the theoretical development of the subject. Four class meetings per week.

Environmental Control Systems

This course builds on building technology fundamentals and focuses on the design, control, and optimization of environmental (heating, cooling, and plumbing) systems in buildings. Students will learn how to analyze, design, and optimize active heating and cooling technology, including plumbing systems, in both residential and commercial buildings. In the lab, students will gain expertise in building energy modeling (BEM) using a state-of-the-art BEM tool (eQuest) to optimize the energy performance of an existing campus building.

Intro/ Comp Graphics (colloq)

This course introduces the fundamental concepts of 2D and 3D computer graphics. It covers the basic methods for modeling, rendering, and imaging. Topics include: image processing, digital photography, 2D/3D modeling, 3D graphics pipeline, OpenGL, shading, texture mapping, ray tracing, 3D printing. Throughout the class, we will teach students to learn modern graphics techniques, to model the visual world algorithmically, and to implement algorithms using Java.

This class will teach students the basic skills necessary to give engaging, effective, content-rich presentations in a variety of contexts, including research presentations, job interviews, and professional interactions. It will focus on optimizing presentation length, content structure (openings, body, closings), body language, enunciation, moods, pacing, audience-interaction (asking questions, taking questions), props and audio-visual aids. Students will learn by doing and, therefore, be expected to give parts of presentations or presentations frequently.
