Intro/Radical Social Theory

This is an introductory course to radical social theory. Our focus is the history of social thought in the West, and the post-colonial critiques of some of these ideas. In this course, students will learn that "radical" means "at the root," and radical social theory is theory that explains the roots of social inequalities and proposes ways of transforming society to achieve justice.

New Venture Org & Growth

This course addresses the issues an entrepreneur must navigate to turn an idea into a vibrant business. Students learn how entrepreneurs form companies, build teams, secure intellectual property and develop a corporate culture. Throughout the course, particular attention is paid to ?people issues? such as founder relations and the dynamic between the CEO and board of directors. Students also see that the entrepreneurial journey can become rocky when competitors try to block key hires, when the party on the other side of the table is a corporate giant and when cash gets tight.

ST-Agent Based Models

In this class we will discuss the mathematical and physical foundations of agent-based models and their applications to a large number of fields, for example statistical mechanics, evolutionary game theory, economics and social sciences, bio-chemical networks, and others. We will cover discrete probabilistic models on lattices as well as systems described by stochastic differential equations. We will develop some the mathematical foundations of the subject (Markov processes) and the necessary tools to understand the long-time behavior of such systems (ergodic theory).
