S-I Iraqi Arabic I

This course develops speaking and listening skills in colloquial Iraqi Arabic. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions with a native speaker and a final evaluation by an outside evaluator. The focus is on practical everyday conversation and listening comprehension. Students studying Iraqi Arabic develop skills needed for research and work in Iraq and to support course work in Middle Eastern and International Studies.

S-I Iraqi Arabic II

Iraqi Arabic II is offered in a special independent study format through the Five College Center for the Study of World Languages. The course develops speaking and listening skills in colloquial Iraqi Arabic. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions with a native speaker and a final evaluation by an outside evaluator. In order to enroll in this course, students must have completed Iraqi Arabic I or the equivalent. Students studying Iraqi Arabic develop skills needed for study abroad in Iraq and to support course work in Middle Eastern and International Studies.

S-I Moroccan Arabic II

Moroccan Arabic II is offered in a special independent study format through the Five College Center for the Study of World Languages. The course develops speaking and listening skills in colloquial Moroccan Arabic. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions with a native speaker and a final evaluation by an outside evaluator. In order to enroll in this course, students must have completed Moroccan Arabic I or the equivalent.

S-I Afrikaans II

Afrikaans II is the second part of a four-part elementary course sequence in Afrikaans. The course is offered through the Five College Supervised Independent Language Program. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions and an evaluation by an outside evaluator. Students studying Afrikaans develop speaking and listening skills needed for study abroad in South Africa and to support course work in African Studies.

S-Afrikaans I

Afrikaans I is the first part of a four-part elementary course sequence in Afrikaans. The course is offered through the Five College Supervised Independent Language Program. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions and an evaluation by an outside evaluator. Students studying Afrikaans develop speaking and listening skills needed for study abroad in South Africa and to support course work in African Studies.

Swahili VI

Swahili VI is the second part of a two-part intermediate course sequence in Swahili (Kiswahili). The course is offered through the Five College Mentored Language Program. The course format includes small group conversation sessions and individual tutorials. Students studying Swahili develop speaking, listening, reading, writing, and cultural etiquette skills needed for study abroad in East Africa (especially Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda) and to support course work in African studies. Prerequisite: Swahili V or the equivalent.
