NATIONAL LATIN AMER 1821-PRES

Same as LAS 261. A thematic survey of Latin American history in the 19th and 20th centuries focusing on the development of export economies and the consolidation of the state in the 19th century, the growth of political participation by the masses after 1900, and the efforts of Latin Americans in the second half of the 20th century to bring social justice and democracy to the region.

INTERNATIONAL POLITICS

An introduction to the theoretical and empirical analysis of the interactions of states in the international system. Emphasis is given to the historical evolution of the international system, security politics, the role of international norms in shaping behavior, and the influence of the world economy on international relations. Not a course in current events. Enrollment limited to 70. Offered both semesters each year.
