MUSIC ENSEMBLE

Open on a limited basis to qualified students who are studying their instruments. This course requires a one-hour lesson and three hours of practice per week. May be repeated. Permission of the instructor required.

COLQ: FUNDAMENTALS OF MUSIC

Colloquia are especially designed for those with no previous background in music. Limited to 20 students, they emphasize class discussion and written work, which will be either music or critical prose as appropriate to the topic. Open to all students, but particularly recommended for first-year students and sophomores. An introduction to music notation and to principles of musical organization, including scales, keys, rhythm and meter. Limited to beginners and those who did not place into 110.

THEATRE PRODUCTION

A laboratory course based on the preparation and performance of department productions. Students in the first semester of enrollment are assigned to a production run crew. In subsequent semesters of enrollment students, elect to fulfill course requirements from a wide array of production-related responsibilities. May be taken four times for credit, with a maximum of two credits per semester. There will be one general meeting in the fall (September 10) and in the spring, in the Green Room, Theatre Building.
