History Of Jazz

Chronological survey covering pre-jazz, ragtime, blues, New Orleans/Chicago, early swing, swing, bop, the '50s (cool, hardbop, thirdstream), '60s, '70s, '80s to present, through lectures, listening, readings, writing, and live performances. Grassroot Exp Amer Lfe & Cul I

This course combines instruction in research tecnniques in a variety of Humanistic and Social Science disciplines, and hands-on experience with those techniques, with substantive materials focusing on the long struggle of minority populations for full participation in American cultural and public life. Ord Dif Eq/Sci Eng

Introduction to ordinary differential equations. First and second order linear differential equations, systems of linear differential equations, Laplace transform, numerical methods, applications. Prerequisite: MATH 132, or 136; corequisite: MATH 233.

[Note: Because this course presupposes knowledge of basic math skills, it will satisfy the R1 requirement upon successful completion.]

High Performance Organizations

Recent advances in the areas of productivity and quality improvement. Specific topics include all or some of: ISO 9000, Total Quality Management, Lean Thinking, Materials Requirements Planning (MRP), and miscellaneous techniques from Just-in-Time. If time permits, topics from one or more of the American Production and Inventory Control Society's (APICS) certification exams for the CPIM (the Operations Management counterpart to the CPA in accounting). Includes team field project at a local company.
