Probability

(Offered as STAT 360 and MATH 360) This course explores the nature of probability and its use in modeling real world phenomena. There are two explicit complementary goals: to explore probability theory and its use in applied settings, and to learn parallel analytic and empirical problem-solving skills. The course begins with the development of an intuitive feel for probabilistic thinking, based on the simple yet subtle idea of counting. It then evolves toward the rigorous study of discrete and continuous probability spaces, independence, conditional probability, expectation, and variance.

Social Inequality & Punishment

This course will examine social inequality in society through the lens of crime, criminality, and punishment. It will analyze criminalization and punishment both as a means to measure social stratification according to race, social class, gender, and other axes of inequality, and as a distinct ground for social stratification.

Mastering Agile Scrum

This course will develop a student?s mastery of cutting-edge project management techniques in Agile and Scrum methodologies, technologies, and toolkits. The student will be able to successfully develop and manage Agile teams, apply sound judgement to appropriate method implementation, ensure project outcomes, and influence business stakeholders. The course will include practical experiential learning, in a teams-based setting, to lead and demonstrate various Agile and Scrum tools and techniques.

Stochastic Processes & Appl

This course is an introduction to stochastic processes. The course will cover Monte Carlo methods, Markov chains in discrete and continuous time, martingales, and Brownian motion. Theory and applications will each play a major role in the course. Applications will range widely and may include problems from population genetics, statistical physics, chemical reaction networks, and queueing systems, for example.

Calculus II

The definite integral, techniques of integration, and applications to physics, chemistry, and engineering. Sequences, series, and power series. Taylor and MacLaurin series. (Gen.Ed. R2)
