Movies are used to explore the development of American politics. The forces that shaped our politics early in the century (immigration, reform, religion), the rise of "big" government in the depression and World War II years (the new roles of the federal government, the enhanced presidency, internationalism, and anti-communism), and selected issues (race, gender, modern campaigns) prominent since the 1960s. This course provides students with a conceptual and practical understanding of the application of multivariate statistics in ecology and conservation science. Importantly, the conceptual development and organization of multivariate statistical techniques and the applications of these methods are presented strictly from an ecology and conservation science perspective. This course focuses on working with multivariate data (e.g., screening and adjusting multivariate data), evaluating grouped data (e.g., unconstrained and constrained ordination).

They will collaborate to investigate, critically evaluate, effectively communicate, and reflect on the multifaceted challenges associated with addressing sustainable resource use, water, food, energy, transportation, waste management, and climate change.

A seminar course for advanced students in psychometric methods. Possible topics include performance-based assessment, standard-setting, computer-based testing, automated test construction, large-scale assessment issues, and test translations methodology.

An introduction to the major steps necessary for the construction of new measures. This course will provide a framework based on modern measurement theory (item response theory with a focus on the Rasch models) for the construction and evaluation of new measures and scales.
