Appreciation-Intro

Survey of music of the European classical tradition. Music fundamentals, forms, and styles from the Medieval period to the 20th century. Listening to representative recordings of various stylistic periods. Concert attendance outside class time required. (Gen.Ed. AT)

History Of Jazz

Chronological survey covering pre-jazz, ragtime, blues, New Orleans/Chicago, early swing, swing, bop, the '50s (cool, hardbop, thirdstream), '60s, '70s, '80s to present, through lectures, listening, readings, writing, and live performances.
