This class examines popular television and film?s depictions of the law and the legal profession. We take a rigorously critical approach to film and television as examples of cultural production. Therefore, we study these media for what they say about social identity, representation and deployment of law and power in U.S. society.

Where are politics in the spaces we go for leisure and play? Sports and politics have become increasingly intertwined over the past 40 years. Local, state, and federal governments, as well as non-governmental bodies like the NCAA, regulate who can participate in sports, and what standards players must meet to do so. But sports have also become the battleground for major political discussions around sex equity, racial inclusion, sexuality, physical ability, and drug testing.

Urban Environmental History

Seminar on the analysis of contemporary urban development issues from a geographical perspective and survey of recently published work in the field. Topics include changing urban systems and structures, transportation, housing, and social and economic factors. Students carry out individual or group research projects.
