Advanced Honors Seminar

Advanced Honors Seminar is the second and final course in the two-part Honors Seminar Series, formerly the Dean?s Book Course. If you have completed HONORS 291D, 291G, or 291R with a B or better, upon successful completion, this course will satisfy the Honors Seminar Series requirement of Commonwealth College. HONORS 391D carries a Gen Ed I. In 391D, students participate in a topical seminar-style course designed by its instructor. While the subject matter of each section is different, the requirements for each section are the same.

Changing treatment of central themes, issues, and problems in art history. Topics change; offerings usually available in Modern and Islamic. List of current offerings available in Art History Office, 317B Bartlett. Prerequisite: upper-level survey course on theme to be examined, or consent of instructor.

Methods Of Art History

The seminar provides an intensive investigation of art museum history, missions, practices, and current issues. Topics include: the ideology and practice of exhibitions from initial concept through installation; components that influence meaning and interpretation of displays of art; the challenges of controversial subject matter and censorship; developing diverse audiences for the 21st century; and, the theories, practices, and ethics of assembling museum collections.
