An introductory course on many aspects of light. The course will include discussion and classroom demonstrations of important aspects of light, shadows, reflection, light in nature (rainbows, mirages, etc.), lenses, image formation, reading glasses, photography (film, digital, f-numbers, etc.), the eye, perception, polarizing materials, where color comes from, color in nature, color mixing (lights and pigments), lasers, among other things.
Heat, kinetic theory, first and second laws of thermodynamics. Comprehensive study of electricity and magnetism from Coulomb's law to AmpEre's law. Applications to basic circuits and ending with AC circuits. Prerequisites: PHYSICS 151/153 and MATH 132. (GenEd. PS)

Selected topics with application to physics in linear algebra and Hilbert space theory, complex variables, Green's functions, partial differential equations, integral transforms, integral equations.
