This course will use the current KIN 110 course content framework enhanced with additional problem solving, critical thinking, and student-centered learning activities and assignments. For example, for the topic on diet, exercise and weight control, students in the honors section will be asked to estimate their own personal energy balance by determining individual energy intake and expenditure and discuss the implications in terms of personal weight management.

S-Advanced Costume Techniques

This class is designed for students who have both costuming and stitching experience and are interested in further exploring these skills. It is primarily a technical class focusing on cutting and stitching, dye techniques, and theatrical craft including millinery and/or mask making. Upon completion of this class, students will have completed a period garment, designed and executed a craft piece and compiled a mini portfolio of techniques and skills. This course is a prerequisite for Theater 593D (Draping and Patternmaking).

S-ImmigrantTales&TrialsofMigr

In this course students will reflect on migrants' experience of translating and being translated in a newly occupied space, the momentary or sustained shifts in identity, the glimpses of belonging or not belonging, and the sense of the contingency of place that can be triggered by these experiences. Though the main focus will be on migration to the United States, the readings and class discussions will also cover other areas of the globe.

Controvrsies Pub Pol

Introduction to contemporary public policy issues and debates. Various perspectives on public policy, including equality, justice, and efficiency. Emphasis on in-class discussion and debates. Applications may include environmental policy, affirmative action, immigration, welfare policy, education, health, and other public policies.
