HIV rates in U.S. poverty areas rival those found in Haiti, Burundi, Ethiopia, and Angola. HIV prevalence in high-poverty neighborhoods is more than double that of the nation overall. Within high-poverty neighborhoods, prevalence among people living below the poverty line was double that of those living above it. Blacks disproportionately bear the brunt of the HIV epidemic in the US accounting for over 48% of all new cases of the disease while representing only 12% of the population.

This course compbines theoretical aspects and hands-on laboratory methods for molecular epidemiology. Topics include biomarkers, gene-environmental interations, nutrient-toxicant interactions, and epigenetics. Laboratory components include DNA isolation, PCR and genotyping.

Provides an introduction to project management, focusing on the integration of business operations and information management, and techniques to effectively manage the implementation of such projects.

This course will survey the historical, political, economic and socio-cultural realities that Black women in the Americas and the Caribbean have faced and continue to face. A variety of readings by and about Black women will highlight the ways in which race, class, and gender combine to operate in the lives of Black women. Special attention will be paid to Black women as laborers, Black women as political activists, and the various ways in which Black women in the Americas and the Caribbean experience race and gender.

Relevant forms of Black cultural expressions contributing to the shape and character of contemporary Black culture; the application of these in traditional Black writers. Includes: West African cultural patterns and the Black past; the transition-slavery, the culture of survival; the cultural patterns through literature; and Black perceptions versus white perceptions. This course exposes students to how core business concepts are implemented in real-world organizational settings. Key business processes covered include procurement (materials management), fulfillment (sales), and production (manufacturing). The class meets in a computer lab and enables hands-on experience, with instructor guidance, to the ERP solution from SAP, the world's largest business software company. Using the system's core modules and data warehouse, students will gain insight into online transaction processing (OLTP) and online analytical processing (OLAP).
