Students synthesize what they learned in the M.P.A. program in a paper that addresses an important gap in knowledge about a particular issue in public policy or management.
Int Statistcl Meth
Introduction to basic statistics including use and interpretation of statistics used in policy research. Topics include statistical methods, descriptive statistics, probability theory, analysis of tabular data, correlation and regression, and multiple regression.
Publc Polcy Analysis
Integrates material from core courses and applies it to actual and hypothetical policy issues in many areas. Examines policy analysis methods using case studies from a wide range of substantive policy areas. Looks at social, economic, organizational, political, and other influences on policy decisions.
S-Women and the Law
How have legal scholars addressed the status of women in society? We will consider different approaches to thinking about women and the law, discussing the significance of law with respect to topics such as reproductive health issues, education and the workplace.
S-Borders, Immigrants & Refug
Movements of bodies, ideas and goods have been a constant part of history, yet responses to such movements have reflected particular economic, cultural, and political formations. This course examines the work of law in managing borders and the people that cross them through case studies of U.S.law and policy affecting immigrants and refugees. What legal principles guide government powers in regulating migration? How does law produce identities such as immigrant, refugee, and undocumented, and how do those processes shape people's experiences and access to rights?
Law at First Sight
This course provides a structured context for students to reflect on their own learning in their GenEd courses. It utilizes social and behavioral sciences - as well as natural and applied sciences, the humanities, law, and even the arts from time to time ? to practice constitutive socio-legal inquiry, and applies this theory to multiple real world settings. We are going to use the ?angle? of sight as our vehicle for attempting to gain a better understanding of the way that law shapes our realities ? and in turn how those set the parameters for law. Simply, what we see around us ?
