Introduces the full range of human cultural and biological diversity. Human evolution, rise and fall of civilizations, non-Western cultures, and the human condition in different societies today. Emphasis on the relationships among biological, environmental, and cultural factors. (Gen.Ed. SB, G)

S-Racialization & Immigration

This course defines, analyzes and interrogates processes of US racial formation with a particular focus on immigration, immigrant communities and the question of immigrant rights. We will begin in the late nineteenth century and follow through to the present day. It will include an outline of the basic patterns of migration to the United States; the role that empire has played in creating these flows; the relationship between immigration, racialization and nation-state formation; questions of naturalization, citizenship and family reunification; immigrant labor; ?illegal?

3D Modeling & Simulation

This course will teach students advanced algorithms and techniques for three-dimensional modeling, animation and physically based simulation. There are no prerequisites for CMPSCI grad students, although familiarity with computer graphics, linear algebra, and differential equations is important. For undergrads, the course has the following prerequisites: Computer Graphics (CMPSCI 473, mark of A- or higher), Introduction to Linear Algebra (Math 235, mark of A- or higher), and Ordinary Differential Equations (Math 331, mark of B or higher).
