Enables students to construct educational assessments using a variety of item formats such as multiple-choice and performance-based items. The entire development process, including item writing and item review are covered.

Introductory course focusing on retrieving and reviewing educational research. Retrieval component introduces sources useful in accessing educational research (e.g., ERIC, journals, handbooks). Reading component introduces quantitative, qualitative, and critical theory modes of inquiry emphasizing how to understand and explain research.

This one-credit seminar is designed to assist the Emerging Scholars students
with their academic transition to the University of Massachusetts. It was designed to connect students to campus resources including the Commonwealth College.

An introduction to the basic philosophical and conceptual works in the field, including the theories of Freire, Illich, and others. Assumptions and theories of nonformal and popular education to practice in adult basic education, community, and health education; critical issues in the planning and implementation of nonformal education.

This seminar introduces students to enduring and emerging information policy issues in public interest battles fought locally, nationally and globally for the control of Internet infrastructure, code and content. We will analyze how policy and regulation, politics, commercial interests, nation-states, transnational organizations and organized civil society actors are shaping our digital communication environment, considering the implications of Internet governance for democracy and human development.
