Thermodynamics I

The fundamentals of the science of thermodynamics, control volume analysis of the conservation of mass and energy and the second law of thermodynamics, pure substance property relations, applications to refrigeration and power systems. Prerequisites: MATH 233, PHYSICS 151, 153 (MATH 233 and PHYSICS 151, 153 may be taken concurrently).

Statics

A vector treatment of equilibrium of particles and rigid bodies. Forces, moments, couples, equations of equilibrium, free-body diagrams, machines, trusses, frames, friction and centroids. Shear and bending moment diagrams.

Prerequisites: MATH 132 and PHYSICS 151

Intro Matl Science

Engineering materials including metals, polymers, ceramics, and composites. Emphasis on the relationship between the microstructure of materials and their mechanical behavior, including the fundamentals of design for performance. Prerequisite: CHEM 111.

M E Lab I

Important mechanical properties of materials engineering such as yield strength and fracture toughness experimentally investigated with a view towards materials selection and design. Skills emphasized: experimental technique, statistical analysis of data, report writing, and oral presentation. Prerequisites: M&I-ENG 201, 211 and 273. ENGLISH 351 (ENGLISH 351 may be taken concurrently).

ST-Advanced GIS

This course will cover a number of methods and applications in GIS. Basic automation methods of repetitive or complex tasks using Model Builder and Python scripting will be covered first. Then these methods will be applied to a number of common problems in Natural Resources including home range definition species habitat relationships, occupancy models, and movement analysis.
