Writing in Engineering

This course fulfills the University's Junior Year Writing Requirement for students in the College of Engineering. Students will be introduced to traditional technical and scientific writing forms, including outlines, summaries, mechanical and technical descriptions, extended technical definitions, research reports, and proposals. Grammar review, oral presentations and on-line research are significant components of this course. Students will also investigate ethics in engineering practice and research.

The Built Environment

We will explore the issues of sustainability from the perspective of the built environment, our history of construction and expansion, and buildings and how they interact with the natural environment. Students will be exposed to issues of human impacts on natural systems through the built environment and the variety of disciplines that are working to create a more sustainable future. (Gen.Ed. I)

With lab. Physical, mechanical properties of wood, especially as critical to wood product technology. Basic techniques for physical measurement and mechanical testing. Introduction to scientific investigation, including design of experiments, data collection and analysis.
