Michelangelo

(Offered as ARHA 255 and EUST 255.)  A monographic course designed to allow the study in some depth of Michelangelo’s accomplishments as a painter, sculptor and architect, as well as a preliminary exploration of his poetry.Serious attention will be paid to establishing a credible and coherent biography of the artist, who carefully shaped – in fact invented – many details of his life story, promoting the image of himself that he wanted posterity to have.

S-Smart Grids

The "smart grid" uses computing and communication technologies to enhance the efficiency, reliability, sustainability and flexibility of the generation, distribution and use of electricity. This seminar will introduce participants to the grid and to the smart grid, and will read current smart grid research papers. Topics will include smart grid communication protocols, security and privacy, smart grid monitoring and measurement, demand response, storage, intermittent generation (e.g., renewable sources), smart homes and building and smart grid modeling.

INTRO HISTORICAL INQUIRY

Colloquia with a limited enrollment of 18 and surveys, both designed to introduce the study of history to students at the beginning level. Emphasis on the sources and methods of historical analysis. Recommended for all students with an interest in history and those considering a History major or minor.

Practicum

Allows a student to work on an actual or demonstration project to explore aspects of landscape planning, design or processes related to landscape architecture.

Introductory Biology I

First semester of a full year course for majors in the life sciences. Introduction to the biochemical basis of living systems, cell biology, mitosis and meiosis, principles of genetics, developmental biology. Includes lecture and discussion sections. Required for biology majors. (Gen.Ed. BS)
