Survey of Western European art music to 1400 with emphasis on Gregorian Chant, Notre Dame and Ars Nova repertoires. Historical, liturgical, analytic, and performance-practice considerations. Prerequisite: MUSIC 300.

Algebraic Geometry

Algebraic geometry provides a precise language for describing geometric shapes defined by systems of polynomial equations - algebraic varieties - with applications ranging from configuration spaces in physics to parametric models in statistics. This versatile language is used across mathematics and has fueled recent advances not only within algebraic geometry itself but also in representation theory, number theory, symplectic geometry, and other fields.

PrincPersnlTrng&StrgthCondtng

This course will provide students with fundamental knowledge underlying the benefits of strength and conditioning. Emphasis is placed on the design and implementation of effective strength and conditioning programs for performance as well as health and fitness. We will apply the multi-disciplinary knowledge in the science of exercise, physical activity, biomechanics and bioenergetics to various populations to identify how they impact performance.

Fellini: The Filmmaker as Liar

The works of Italy's most influential filmmaker in the most crucial years of Italy's recent history (1953-1973) are examined to understand the persuasive power of the mise-en-scene that, while presenting itself as totally false, induces a powerful sense of experiential truth in the audience. By understanding how Fellini persuade us with his stories, we understand how we are made of stories ourselves.

Black Feminisms

This course will survey some of the essential Black Feminist works concerning the antebellum to today. To have a contemporary understanding of the variations of Black Feminisms today, it is important to have a grasp on the historical context of Blackness in the western hemisphere. This includes experiences rooted in the antebellum that span beyond American national borders, including the islands of the Caribbean, the Americas, and their territories.

Independent Study

In this class, students will acquire hands-on and/or applied experience in diverse aspects of the research process in any field of Chemistry under the direction and supervision of a faculty advisor. Typically, these projects are related to the research program of the advisor. Student experiences often include: familiarizing themselves with a research topic, generating interesting questions, designing experiments, acquiring technical and instrumentation skills, collecting and analyzing data, writing and/or presenting their results.

Video Design I

This course explores the history, theory and current practice of video design in performance, film and fine art. We will explore projection as a time based, ephemeral medium and interrogate how the unique properties of video can aid in storytelling, particularly in conjunction with three-dimensional space. Students will gain proficiency in various video creation tools and will produce their own video project by the end of the semester.
