Capitalism, Race, and the Worl
Modern capitalists, owners of the means of social production and employers of wage labor, exist on the basis of what Karl Marx called the ?formation and augmentation of capital.? Elombe Brath has observed that Africans are the only people in the world that have been held as capital. This seminar explores the past, present, and future relationship of capitalism and race by investigating the economic realities of people of African descent in various countries, especially the U.S., Colombia, Cape Verde, France, Brazil, Jamaica, and South Africa.
