Industry-Sponsored Mech Design

This course prepends an optional semester to the BSME capstone design course (MIE 415) for students wanting to do more complex, industry-sponsored projects. MIE 415 is the third course in the mechanical design sequence that began junior year with design of mechanical components, progressed through the design of mechanical assemblies, and culminates with the design of mechanical systems. Both MIE 414 and 415 lead the students through the process of identifying the customers' needs and casting them in terms of engineering specifications that can be measured.

Des Mech Assemblies

Design of devices with strongly interacting components and functions. General principles and methods discussed. Design of specific assemblies, e.g., gearboxes and positioners explored in depth through a design project. Prerequisite: M&I-ENG 313.
