Survey: Ancient-Medieval Art

First half of a survey of art history from prehistoric times to the 20th century. Chronological and systematic approach; either a basis for more detailed study of individual periods in upper-level art history courses, or a solid general foundation for a heightened appreciation of the heritage of art. More professionally oriented than ART-HIST 115. Background for upper-level art history courses; required of majors. (Gen.Ed. AT, DG)

Modern Art 1880-present colloq

This colloquium provides students in ART-HIST 324 the opportunity to meet with the professor and graduate students in ART-HIST 624 to discuss important upper-level art history readings supplemental to the course material that provide deeper insights into artists and movements discussed in class and reflect on political and methodological approaches in art history. It may also involve a field trip to an area art museum to discuss art works on view and the politics of museum curation and display.
