Veterinary Microbiology Lab

A microbiology laboratory course for skill development and discovery, focusing on the importance of microbes in animal health and disease, emphasizing development of essential techniques, including sterile technique, microscopy, enrichment, isolation, cultivation, characterization (including antibiotic susceptibility), and molecular detection of microbes; laboratory exercises designed to encourage students to develop and test hypotheses, and to think critically about their observations.

Vet Clinical Lab Techniques

This course examines the use of diagnostic laboratory procedures in the field of hematology, blood chemistries, urinalysis, and cytology. Lectures will make use of online work in addition to in person and will cover the theories on which the tests are based and the correlation of the laboratory results with pathological conditions. The collection, handling, and storage of laboratory specimens and general laboratory management procedures including safety and quality control, will be discussed.

Exotic Animal Medicine

This course is designed to focus on the most common exotic animals kept as pets. Anatomical and physiological differences between exotic animal pets and other domestic animals will be discussed. Principles of husbandry, handling and clinical techniques will be covered. Review of common diseases and the types of treatment of those common diseases will be covered. Laws governing the ownership of exotic animal pets will be discussed.
