Intro to Philosophy of Tech

This course provides an introduction to philosophical and ethical issues surrounding technology, with a focus on new and emerging technologies and their relation to and impacts on self, society, and the environment. General topics may include: What is technology and how does it evolve? What is the relationship between science and technology? How does technology affect and structure individual and social life? Specific technologies and questions discussed may include: Should we use geo-engineering to address climate change? Is it morally permissible to alter the human genome?

Problems in Social Thought

This course serves as an introduction to social and political philosophy. We will consider a gamut of issues related to how society should be structured, the nature of political authority and justice, and how certain social and institutional structures contribute to various social inequities. More specifically, we will consider the following sorts of questions: What kinds of societies are ideal for human beings? What is the role of government in those societies?

Medical Ethics

An Honors introduction to ethics through issues of medicine and health care. Topics include abortion, treatment of impaired infants, euthanasia, physician-assisted suicide, truth-telling, medical experimentation on human beings and on animals, and the allocation of scarce medical resources.
