Stochastic Processes & Appl

This course is an introduction to stochastic processes. The course will cover Monte Carlo methods, Markov chains in discrete and continuous time, martingales, and Brownian motion. Theory and applications will each play a major role in the course. Applications will range widely and may include problems from population genetics, statistical physics, chemical reaction networks, and queueing systems, for example.

Calculus II

The definite integral, techniques of integration, and applications to physics, chemistry, and engineering. Sequences, series, and power series. Taylor and MacLaurin series. (Gen.Ed. R2)

Fundamentals of Speech Sounds

The course provides an introduction to the rich diversity of the sounds of the world?s languages and how they pattern?what they are, how they are produced, and commonalities and differences between languages and their sound systems. You will also acquire foundational tools for analyzing speech sounds and patterns.

The Holocaust

This course explores the causes and consequences of what was arguably the most horrific event in all of history. Topics include both the long-term origins of the Holocaust in European racism and anti-Semitism and the more immediate origins in the dynamics of the Nazi state and the war against the Soviet Union.

Intro/Radio and Podcasting

In this course, students dive into the fundamentals of audio journalism and begin to develop their own storytelling styles and voices. Along the way, they learn the technical side of audio while building confidence in creating stories for the ear (a much different process than writing for the eye). And it all starts and ends with reporting and writing ? for both broadcast radio stories and longform podcasts.
