General Plant Pathology

Plant diseases are omnipresent and incredibly impactful in artificial (e.g. farms, managed landscapes) and natural (e.g. forests, meadows) systems. How do we recognize diseases and then manage them? What are the experts in the field that we can rely on to help us diagnose plant diseases? During this course, we will learn to (1) recognize important categories of plant diseases, (2) diagnose the main types of pathogens (Fungi, Oomycota, Bacteria, Viruses and Nematodes) and (3) manage diseases sustainably.

Protest & Dissent hons

The understanding of protest and dissent is a staggeringly broad, diverse, and multi-disciplinary pursuit. No one approach, or field of study, is entirely adequate. Our class will privilege political theory, but we'll be talking about social and political protest quite broadly, working with and developing case studies drawn from history and current events. We will focus on individual and collective actions motivated by principle and grounded in practical concerns. In so doing we will encounter a variety of responses to power, privilege, inequality, oppression and injustice.

AI in Business

The Artificial Intelligence in Business is designed for business major students aspiring to develop a deeper understanding of artificial intelligence and its use in business applications. The course will provide an introductory overview of different mathematical and computational data analysis tools and machine learning techniques commonly used in artificial intelligence. Focus will be on case studies and applications that demonstrate how artificial intelligence can augment current business operations.

Appl/R for Mktg & Analytics

In the digital age, the ability to analyze and interpret marketing data has become essential for success. This course, Applications of R for Marketing and Analytics, is designed to equip students with the skills needed to harness the power of data in making strategic marketing decisions. Through a blend of theoretical concepts and hands-on practice, students will learn how to clean, analyze, and visualize marketing data from real world datasets.

Formal Pragmatics

This course aims at modeling the role of the context of utterance in the construction of linguistic meaning; it does so by?but not exclusively by?exploring the relation between truth-conditional and non truth-conditional content. We elucidate the notions of speech acts, discourse and utterance, and we concentrate on a small number of phenomena: presupposition and non at-issue content, implicatures, focus and questions.

S-2ndLangAcquisition&Research

By the end of the semester, you will be able to say, "I know how we acquire a second (third, fourth) language!" You will develop a strong knowledge of second language acquisition: its challenges, major theories and why it is fascinating. We will go over Bilingualism as well, and explore the differences between adult and child acquisition. Active participation required, presentations, readings every week, for a class led as a seminar. Designed for students not majoring in linguistics.
