This course provides a statistical introduction to shape analysis. Shape analysis is an overarching term for the study of comparison of ?objects? rather than the typical comparison of scalars or vectors. Shape has a very intuitive definition, but to mathematically define shape requires some rigor which are contingent on user-made choices. Once we have a foundation on how to compare objects we will focus on statistical questions of these objects. We will focus on how to define probability distributions on the space of shapes and how to perform statistical tests on samples of shapes.

This course will cover the analysis of data in which the same measurement has been taken for the same unit multiple times. We will focus on two main methods: mixed effects models and generalized estimating equations (GEE). We will develop the theory behind each method, practice applying it to real and simulated data, and discuss how to interpret the results. All data analysis will be conducted in R, so students should have some familiarity with this language before enrolling in this course.

In this course, we see how probability theory is used in statistics to formalize and facilitate the process of learning from data, which is called statistical inference. The three main aspects of statistical inference we will cover are point estimation, confidence intervals, and hypothesis tests. For each of these topics, we will provide the goals and motivation, basic definitions, general methodology, and commonly used tools, including inference for means, differences in means, proportions, and differences in proportions. The course is structured in five basic sections.

This course offers a panoramic exploration of that land from pre-historic times until the founding of the State of Israel in 1948, stressing the links between the territory, its peoples, and its exiles around the world. This course addresses the historical and contemporary intersection between migration, borders and the state from a critical and interdisciplinary perspective, in the United States and internationally. We will examine the role of law, the role of the state, and various institutional actors in theorizing, developing and implementing immigration policies at various levels of government, including the United Nations, state governments, and courts, as well as non-state actors such as lawyers, nonprofits and immigrant movements.

The Commonwealth Honors College thesis or project is intended to provide students with the opportunity to work closely with faculty members to define and carry out in-depth research or creative endeavors. It provides excellent preparation for students who intend to continue their education through graduate study or begin their professional careers. The student works closely with their 499Y Honors Research sponsor to pursue research on a topic or question of special interest to them in preparation for writing a 499T Honors Thesis or completing a 499P Honors Project.

Students will explore legal and ethical considerations in the field, as well as practical skills for enhancing the learning experiences of young children with disabilities. The course topics include the characteristics of specific disabilities, individualized education programs, inclusive practices, family collaboration, and evidence-based strategies essential for supporting young children with disabilities and their families.
