This course provides an introduction to the field of toxicology, the science of poisons. Through a combination of lectures, guest speakers, discussions of case studies, and class exercises, students will learn the fundamental concepts of toxicology, the health effects of different classes of toxicants and toxins, and the application of toxicology is such as forensic toxicology and risk assessment.

This course will provide a comprehensive overview of issues related to health in women, addressing areas including but not limited to biology, psychology, geography, economics, health policy, and social issues.

This course provides students with the opportunity to explore approaches to community development and organizing. Students will gain skills and techniques to involve people in the analysis of the health problems that affect them. Students will also discuss potential solutions to community health problems. This course will incorporate new technologies as tools to examine local community health issues. Students will also be introduced to the principles and methods of community participatory research in local communities.

This course provides the student with an understanding of major theories used to understand health problems in communities. Grounded in social and behavioral sciences, students will examine the tools and strategies used by public health educators to educate and empower people about health issues.

This is a stand-alone independent study designed by the student and faculty sponsor that involves frequent interaction between instructor and student. Qualitative and quantitative enrichment must be evident on the proposed contract before consent is given to undertake the study.

This course is intended to introduce the science of epidemiology and to explore how epidemiologic methods are applied to solving public health problems. Students will learn basic quantitative methods, study design concepts, and critical thinking skills relating to infectious and chronic disease epidemiology.
