Price Theory

The purpose of this course is to present intermediate level microeconomic theory. Primarily we will focus on consumer demand theory and economics of production. Both graphical and mathematical approaches will be presented. This course provides the background necessary for more advanced courses in the department.

Law, Crime and Society

This course explores the interplay between law, crimes, and social institutions like the family, the state, and political economy. More broadly, Law, Crime, & Society is an introduction to the uses of theory in the social sciences and the ways in which it relates to the world beyond the classroom. This class shows students how to employ abstract concepts as tools for explaining contemporary real world situations, and pushes them to reflect on and synthesize the full arc of their undergraduate learning experience in preparation for the demands of life after the University.

Interdisciplinary LegalStudies

Law as an institution of argumentation to articulate disputes, create and interpret rules, and invoke state power. Focus on controversial legal issues, including abortion, capital punishment, pornography, regulation of drug use, religion and state, and control of crime, with materials drawn from various disciplines and sources. Intended to assist students in developing their ability to analyze, critique, and make arguments. (Gen. Ed. SB)

Taylor Swift, Songwriter

From pickup trucks to getaway cars, banjos to synthesizers, singer-songwriter to billion-dollar global brand, Taylor Swift has continuously transformed her music and public persona. In this 13-week course students will learn about basic elements of songwriting such as rhythm and meter, harmony, timbre, melody, lyrics, and form through the close listening to Swift?s music. Together we will also think critically about recurring themes that emerge in her lyrics and explore issues such as identity, well-being, celebrity, social media, and fandom.
