One of the visual system's most important contributions to our knowledge of our environment is its ability to recognize and identify objects in front of us. We will explore different proposals for how visual object recognition is accomplished, and the neural mechanisms that underlie these cognitive processes. We will also examine recent advances in computer systems for visual object recognition and assess how they contribute to our understanding of biological visual systems.
