General Relativity II

The class will explore advanced topics in general relativity, picking up where P568/821 left off. Topics in black hole physics will include BH solutions with rotation and in the presence of a non-zero cosmological constant; BH thermodynamics and Hawking radiation. We will discuss interior solutions to Einstein's equations for stars and neutron stars. The physics of gravitational radiation will be presented in more depth, including the derivation of the quadrupole formula for power radiated by a source.

Pre-Advanced Korean II

This course is the second half of a pre-advanced Korean course designed for students who have either completed Pre-Advanced Korean I or have equivalent proficiency in Korean language. With the goal to further develop all four skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing, students will expand their use of previously learned grammatical pattens toward a paragraph length discourse. Students will develop their Korean proficiency through exploring various topics on Korean culture and society. Students will read authentic materials including news articles, literature, and so forth.

Organic Chem Lab

Experimental organic chemistry with emphasis on underlying physical principles. Separation and purification, synthesis, analysis, and identification of organic compounds, including spectroscopy. Microscale work predominates. Emphasis on safe laboratory practices and proper disposal of wastes. Prerequisite or co-requisite: CHEM 262 or 266.

Envir,ClimateChange&Humanities

This course introduces students to the exciting, interdisciplinary field of the Environmental Humanities, which engages with the relationship between humanistic study and environmental concerns, such as climate change.
