Haitian Creole IV

Haitian Creole IV is the fourth part of a four-part elementary course sequence in Haitian Creole. The course is offered through the Five College Supervised Independent Language Program. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions and an evaluation by an outside evaluator. Students studying Haitian Creole develop speaking and listening skills needed for study abroad in Haiti and to support course work in Caribbean and/or Francophone Studies.

Cantonese/Mandarin Speakers IV

Spoken Cantonese for Mandarin Speakers IV is the fourth part of a four-part elementary course sequence in Spoken Cantonese for Mandarin Speakers. The course is offered through the Five College Supervised Independent Language Program. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions and an evaluation by an outside evaluator. Students studying Cantonese develop speaking and listening skills needed to live and work in China or Hong Kong and to support coursework in East Asian Studies.

Bulgarian IV

Bulgarian IV is the fourth part of a four-part elementary course sequence in Bulgarian. The course is offered through the Five College Supervised Independent Language Program. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions and an evaluation by an outside evaluator. Students studying Bulgarian develop speaking and listening skills needed for study abroad in Bulgaria and to support course work in European Studies.

Burmese IV

Burmese IV is the fourth part of a four-part elementary course sequence in Burmese. The course is offered through the Five College Supervised Independent Language Program. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions and an evaluation by an outside evaluator. Students studying Burmese develop speaking and listening skills needed for study abroad in Myanmar (Burma) and to support course work in Southeast Asian Studies.

Bangla/Bengali IV

Bangla/Bengali IV is the fourth part of a four-part elementary course sequence in Bangla. The course is offered through the Five College Supervised Independent Language Program. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions and an evaluation by an outside evaluator. Students studying Bangla/Bengali develop speaking and listening skills needed for study abroad in Bangladesh and to support course work in South Asian Studies.

Amharic IV

Amharic IV is the fourth part of a four-part elementary course sequence in Amharic. The course is offered through the Five College Supervised Independent Language Program. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions and an evaluation by an outside evaluator. Students studying Amharic develop speaking and listening skills needed for study abroad in Ethiopia and to support course work in African Studies.

Afrikaans IV

Afrikaans IV is the fourth part of a four-part elementary course sequence in Afrikaans. The course is offered through the Five College Supervised Independent Language Program. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions and an evaluation by an outside evaluator. Students studying Afrikaans develop speaking and listening skills needed for study abroad in South Africa and to support course work in African Studies.

Swahili Senior Research III

Advanced Swahili Senior Research III is for students working on an advanced Swahili research project or thesis. Students develop skills in describing and narrating in detail, expressing opinions, giving reasons for opinions, and cross-cultural communication. Students develop vocabulary necessary to discuss and write about their chosen topic in Swahili.

Topics in Advanced Urdu III

Topics in Advanced Urdu III focuses on developing advanced reading and speaking skills, expanding vocabulary, and improving the ability to describe/narrate in detail and support opinions. Topics are chosen in consultation with the program director. The course format includes small group conversation sessions and individual tutorials. Students studying Urdu develop speaking, listening, reading, writing, and cultural etiquette skills needed for study abroad in Pakistan or India and to support course work in South Asian Studies.
